 Cemetery Trustees' meeting

 June 6, 2022

On June 6, 2022 at 9:30 the Cemetery Trustees, Ruthie Hammen, Fred Shaw and Brenda Boswak met at the Historical Society building.

Old Business

We completed the placement of American flags on all the veterans’ gravesites for Memorial Day with the assistance of several volunteers. Thank you to the Bob Shaw family, Donna & Fred Chagnon, Bette Bogdon & Richard Holloran, Amy King & family, Katie Bennett & family, and Heather Taluba and family. We appreciate you taking time to join us!

Ruthie purchased and place dflowers for Memorial Day at the Leavitt gravesites, at Leavitt Cemetery, as stipulated per the Leavitt family trust. She verified memorial stones have been installed on the Boyd, Jordan lots in Leavitt Cemetery and the Oliver Mobbs, Jr. lot in Pineground Cemetery. She noticed a memorial stone for a pet has been removed from Leavitt Cemetery. We discussed posting a public notice reminder of the Cemetery Rules & Regulations on the town website, reiterating that only the burials of human remains are allowed in the cemeteries.

Ruthie will contact Hodgkins Painting and Maintenance once again to have them make repairs to the ground dug up by a vehicle at Knowlton-Edgerly Cemetery.

John Hall of Hall Monument in Northwood contacted us with an estimated time to resume repairs at Knowlton-Edgerly Cemetery. He anticipates the end of June or beginning of July.

New business

Fred continues research on the information needed to compose a “green or natural burial” rules and guidelines document to be added to our documentation protocol.  Fred will attend the Municipal Trustees’ Training Workshop on June 9, 2022.

Fred will establish a website for the Cemetery Trustees. This will allow us to publish and maintain accurate, helpful, need-to-know information for the community. Brenda will collaborate on the creation of the website.

We plan to visit Perkins-Maxfield Cemetery, on Pleasant Street in the next couple of weeks to photograph and diagram the layout of the graves. Ruthie will coordinate a time with Gordon & Marion Jones to join us and share their knowledge of the burial locations there, also.

The privately owned Langley-Watson Cemetery located on Bailey Road has been renamed by the owners to Towle-French Cemetery. An attractive new sign has been erected and landscaping and tree trimming has been completed.

 Meeting adjourned 11:40 a.m.

Respectfully submitted, Brenda Boswak, Cemetery Trustee, Secretary
