Town of Chichester Cemetery Trustees meeting February 6, 2023
The Cemetery Trustees, Ruth Hammen, Fred Shaw and Brenda Boswak held a meeting February 6, 2023, at 9:15 at the Historical Society building.
Old business Ruth & Fred have prepared the ‘Cemetery Trustees Report’ for the 2023 Town Report and submitted it to the Town Administrator. Ruth received the signed contract from Hodgkins Painting & Maintenance for the 2023 mowing season. The Board of Selectmen requested the Cemetery Trustees to attend their January 31, 2023 meeting. All three Cemetery Trustees attended and explained the purpose of our two warrant articles. One article addresses the acceptance of Hook Cemetery as a town cemetery, as requested by the remaining living family members of that cemetery. The second article requests a new, singular trust be established to deposit money from sales of ‘right to inter’ into, instead of individual trusts. Selectmen, Ed Millette suggested rewording the warrant article. Jodi will compose the updated warrant article and submit to the Cemetery Trustees for acceptance. The Cemetery Trustees explained our request for a budget for 2023 for the maintenance of trees in/and around the cemeteries. The Selectmen proposed including our tree budget request in the Road Agent’s budget, with the $5,000 specifically designated for ‘cemetery tree maintenance’. Ruth & Brenda plan to attend the Board of Selectmen meeting on February 7, 2023, to review and accept the updated warrant article wording. As of this morning’s meeting we have not received the updated wording.
New business We have completed the revision of and accepted the new ‘Right to Inter’ agreement and will begin using the new document this Spring. Brenda is working on compiling a complete file of ‘Cemetery Meeting Minutes’. She will search the files at the town office and collate with what we have in our files. Brenda continues adding photos and information to the ‘Cemetery Trustees’ website. www.chicemcom.org Ruth & Fred have continued to answer many phone calls as well as email inquiries.
