Town of Chichester
Cemetery Trustees’ meeting
February 5, 2024
February 5, 2024, the Cemetery Trustees met at 9:00 a.m. at the Historical Society building. Ruth Hammen, Fred Shaw and Brenda Boswak were in attendance.
OLD BUSINESS
Tomorrow, February 6, 2024, is the Proposed Town Budget public hearing. Brenda will plan to attend to be available to answer any questions pertaining to our proposed warrant article; ‘request the Town of Chichester to accept ownership of Hook Cemetery’ and our request for a budget line item of $6,000 for the purpose of removal of dangerous dead trees in the cemeteries and a Cemetery Maintenance budget of $7,000 for the 2024 year.
Dot Cotnoir, NH Monuments and Riel Fence company have each submitted an estimate for repairs on Hook Cemetery. We have two estimates now, for repairing the cemetery, for planning purposes. If the warrant article passes, we will include Hook Cemetery into our current list of ‘needed repairs’ on all our town cemeteries.
We received the signed contract from Hodgkins Painting & Maintenance for the 2024 season for cemetery groundskeeping.
NEW BUSINESS
Tim Mayville has volunteered his time and equipment and cleaned up a large dead tree that fell into Hook Cemetery from the abutting property. The tree landed on a large gravestone monument, but it does not appear to have caused any damage to it. There was damage done to the iron railing surrounding the cemetery.
Ruthie had a request from Paul Mcquire, for permission to be buried in the Parmenter lot in Leavitt Cemetery. He is a grandson of Stan & Pauline Parmenter and there is still space available in the lot.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:40 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Brenda Boswak, Cemetery Trustee, Secretary
