Town of Chichester Cemetery Trustees meeting
December 5, 2022
The Chichester Cemetery Trustees met at 9:15 a.m. at the Historical Society building.
Ruth Hammen, Fred Shaw, and Brenda Boswak were in attendance.
Old business
Brenda met with Don Cotnoir, NH Monuments, to walk through the cemeteries for Don to see the damaged gravestones we would like estimates on for restoration for 2023.
New business T
he deadline has passed for sponsoring a wreath for Wreaths Across America Day on December 17, 2022. As of today, we have 238 wreaths sponsored. Military members have volunteered to lay Remembrance wreaths during the ceremony at the Veterans’ Memorial Park at noon on December 17. Volunteers have offered to help with the unloading of the delivery of wreaths, tentatively scheduled for December 16, 2022. All the shepherd’s hooks are in place at the veterans’ gravesites in the cemeteries. The veterans’ American flags have been removed for the winter. Ruthie will contact the Road Agent to request snow removal and/or sanding the parking for the ceremony. A microphone is needed for this year’s ceremony, Fred and Ruthie will try to locate the one belonging to the Historical Society.
We had more discussion about rewording the “cemetery deed” to “right to inter”. Fred will call the Attorney General for clarification of RSA 289:1 and request a sample document that would be suitable to change to.
The Carpenter mausoleum, in Pineground Cemetery needs cleaning. This is a prominent monument in the cemetery and would be nice to have it look its best. One empty crypt remains in the mausoleum. The Cemetery Trustees do not have access to the mausoleum if a request for interment was received. Ruthie has contact information for the descendants and will try to have a conversation with them about cleaning and the whereabouts of the key to the mausoleum.
Ruthie will take our request for ‘$5,000, for a cemetery tree maintenance’ budget for 2023, to Jodi to be submitted to the town Budget Committee.
Meeting adjourned @ 11:45 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Brenda Boswak, Cemetery Trustee, Secretary
