Cemetery Trustees’ meeting

December 2, 2024

The Cemetery Trustees met on December 2, 2024 @ 9:00 a.m. at the Historical Society building. Ruth Hammen, Fred Shaw and Brenda Boswak were in attendance.

OLD BUSINESS

Ruthie received a phone call from Scott Tepper in response to the November 4, 2024, letter we mailed to him regarding the removal of tree debris in Burying Yard Cemetery. He agreed to remove the debris before the Wreaths Across America Day event, however, he feels he is not responsible for the tree. As of today, the debris is still there. We have drafted a letter to the Selectmen with current photos showing the debris and the location of the tree, notifying them of the current situation and requesting their decision as to how they will handle the cleanup. Diane Loso was able to locate credible military information so that we were able to confirm Wes Stowe as a military veteran to be added to our veterans’ list. We also discovered credible military information on Francis A. Kendall to be added to our veterans’ list. Both are buried at Leavitt Cemetery.

Don Cotnoir, NH Monuments submitted a request for a deposit to begin the restoration work on gravestones at Page Cemetery. The invoice was submitted, and he has received payment. Dave Colbert assisted Don with removing the badly damaged gravestones to transport to NH Monument’s business location to be worked on throughout the winter. These gravestones will remain in the possession of Don Cotnoir, NH Monuments for an extended period.

NEW BUSINESS

A new headstone for Charles Pray has been placed at Leavitt Cemetery and a ‘Right to Inter’ contract sold to Norman Daroska at Leavitt Cemetery. Diane Loso located accurate burial information on Eddie Cox and Eddie Cass, both listed as buried in Leavitt Cemetery. The correct name for the burial listed on the Leavitt Cemetery lot map should be Eddie Cass. Ruth and Fred visited the lot and confirmed as accurately as possible the location of the lot for Eddie Cass. J

oseph Beachy, Extoll Tree Care, LLC met with Brenda and will submit to us, before December 10, 2024, an estimate for the removal of dead trees at True Cemetery, Ruth and Brenda will plan to attend the Department Head meeting with the Board of Selectmen on December 3, 2024, as well as the Selectmen/Budget Committee meeting on December 10, 2024. Brenda will compile a presentation supporting our budget request for the 2025 season.

The Wreaths Across America Day is scheduled for December 14, 2024 @ 12:00 noon. As of today, all 219 veterans’ Remembrance Wreaths have been sponsored. We deeply appreciate the support and participation of town residents for this event to honor our military veterans.  Lee Beachy has finished work on eight new wooden easels for the ceremony wreaths. These will be approximately 5 feet tall, which will make a classier presentation of the wreaths at the Veterans’ Memorial Park monument. We have created larger laminated ‘Reserved’ tags to place on the grave specific wreath hooks, to hopefully prevent volunteers from placing a wreath where family members are planning to place a wreath. Brenda will make arrangement to receive the wreaths from a Wreaths Across America volunteer trucking company. Fred Shaw generously donated a visa gift card for the truck driver. The company and drivers donate their time, equipment and fuel.

The meeting was adjourned @ 11:58 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Brenda Boswak, Cemetery Trustee, Secretary
